Questions to ask about conspiracy theories

Is there a rational, non-conspriacy explanation? Is it just correlation not causation?
Has this been held up to scrutiny by experts? If so, what did those experts say? How many sources are cited?
How plausible is this conspiracy, as a practical matter? How many people would have to be involved to keep it secret?
